We are often asked
. . .
- How can I arrange for a wedding?
- How can I arrange for a baptism?
- How do I become a member?
- What assistance does Peace offer the
community?
- May I rent the facilities at Peace?
- How do I arrange for a funeral?
Christian marriage is celebrated within the context of the
gathered Christian community.
Generally, weddings are arranged in consultation with the pastor and
after pre-marriage preparation.
Please call or speak with the pastor for more information.
How can I arrange for a baptism at Peace?
Holy Baptism is a sacrament in which God gifts people with faith,
forgiveness, and eternal life.
In Baptism, we are made children of God and members of the church, the
Body of Christ.
For adults, instruction precedes Holy Baptism. For infants,
parents and/or sponsors (godparents)
are prepared for the promises they make in bringing their child up in
the faith and community
of believers.
What do I do if I want to become a member of Peace?
New Comer Orientation classes are offered periodically throughout
the year. We call them
"New Comer " classes (not "New Member" classes) because they are
intended to be an
orientation to how things work at Peace, not a commitment to become
a member. If you are
curious about church in general or Peace in particular, maybe an
orientation class will answer
your questions. And, we'd be happy to get to know you whether
you become a member or
just visit occasionally. Contact the church office for the
schedule of classes.
Peace Lutheran Church was founded more than thirty years ago
with a clear mission . . . to be
a community of care for a community in need. From its
beginning, Peace has been a congregation
that provides for people in need and a place for groups to meet.
The Peace Food Pantry serves the
emergency needs of people in Waldorf, White Plains, and
Bryantown. We host "Safe Nights," a winter-time
homeless shelter for several weeks every winter.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Food Addicts in Recovery
(FAIR), MOMS Clubs, and a number of other community groups and
start-up churches use our building. We
support more than two dozen local, regional, national, and
international programs caring for people in
need. Why? Because we are God's people and because God
cares, so do we. If you'd like more information
about any of these programs, call or e-mail us and we'll answer
any questions quickly and confidentially.
Be sure to check our "Calendar of Events" for dates and times of
upcoming community meetings.
May I rent the facilities at Peace?
We believe that it is not OUR building so much as it is
God's building. We make it available to community
groups as often and as inexpensively as we can. We do not
charge "rent" but do ask those who use the
building to share the cost of heating, air conditioning, paper
products, trash collection, keys, etc.
For more information or to have a facility use application sent
to you, call or e-mail the church office.
How do I arrange for a funeral at Peace?
Our pastor has worked with most of the funeral homes in the
area. Generally, the funeral director
will contact the church office to check on availability,
schedule, make arrangements, etc. Or, families
are welcome to call directly to speak with the pastor.
