The Fruit of the Spirit
By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
Galatians 5:22-23
There ought to be a law! Not against such things but for the fruit of the Spirit. But, alas, we cannot legislate such things. Laws are important and, if good ones, can help us move forward as a society. Yet we cannot enact laws that make people live by the fruit of the Spirit. There is no way to force someone to be a certain way. But through God’s love, grace and mercy we are free to live into these gifts and, in that way, share the fruit of the Spirit. In this time of Advent, of waiting expectantly, I hope you find ways to share all that God’s Spirit has gifted you with and to encourage others to live by the fruit of the Spirit.
Come Holy Spirit. Help us to show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in all that we do. In Jesus' name we pray.
