Season of Easter

The liturgy we'll be experiencing during worship over the Easter season, up to Pentecost Sunday, will be drawn from A New Zealand Prayer Book, published by the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia. The New Zealand Prayer Book has become a valuable spiritual resource far beyond its shores. The New Zealand Prayer Book, in addition to being a contemporary resource, draws from nature and uses more expressive language for God, as well as incorporating Māori language (for our context the liturgy will only be in English). The prayer book is available in digital format at ANZPB - A New Zealand Prayer Book (anglicanprayerbook.nz).

You'll also hear a 'different' version of the Lord's Prayer from the New Zealand Prayer Book. With Earth Day approaching in mid-April, this prayer's emphasis on God's creativity, as referred to in both the masculine and feminine, is a powerful reminder of our responsibility to be good stewards of our Earthly home.

THE LORD’S PRAYER: MAORI & POLYNESIA

Eternal Spirit,

Earth-maker, Pain bearer, Life-giver,

Source of all that is and that shall be,

Father and Mother of us all,

Loving God, in whom is heaven:

The hallowing of your name echo through the universe;

The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world;

Your heavenly will be done by all created beings;

Your commonwealth of peace and freedom

sustain our hope and come on earth.

With the bread we need for today, feed us.

In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us.

In times of temptation and test, strengthen us.

From trial too great to endure, spare us.

From the grip of all that is evil, free us.

For you reign in the glory of the power that is love,

now and forever. Amen.

Both Pastor Eric and Will are excited about the new mass setting we'll be using this Easter season. The Mass of Glory, composed by Bob Hurd and Ken Canedo, is a joyful, "gospel" style that breathes new energy into worship and raises our praise of God during this time of year when we celebrate Christ's resurrection. You can listen to elements of the mass setting on YouTube here. Elements of the mass setting we'll be using include 'Glory to God', 'Holy', 'Alleluia, Give God the Glory', 'Lamb of God', 'Penitential Act' (Kyrie), and 'Amen'.
